Liz and Richard Hawkes, the owners of Watermark Gallery have recently joined the management committee at New Light Art, a charity that aims to promote high quality of art in the North of England.
Every two years New Light Art invites Northern artists to submit work for a prize exhibition. Shortlisted works are then exhibited at venues inside and outside the region such as, The Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle, The Mercer Art Gallery, Harrogate and Panter and Hall in London. Entry details for the 2018 prize competition will be available soon.
New Light Art organises an Art for All programme and features workshops with artists, talks, guided viewings and education projects. The organisation also has its own permanent collection of artworks, donated by northern artists and available for loan by public spaces (e.g. schools, hospitals, community buildings) completely free of charge. Corporate sponsors are also able to pay a small fee to hire out works from this impressive collection.
As a charity New Light Art is reliant on the generosity of private sponsors and funders. If you are able to help in any way at all, or you are interested in attending an event or workshop, please do sign up to the New Light email newsletter on the home page here.
