Kate originally trained as a Sculptor and Theatre Designer. Since 1999 she has been a professional painter. Originally from the Lake District she is now based in South west Scotland. She is an elected member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, The Society of Women Artists, and a retired member of The Lakes Artists Society.
Kate’s location, daily life, and landscape all influence her subject matter. Her sculpting and theatre background aids development and technique. Historically, she is a ‘painter of life,’ utilising years of en plein air sessions and life drawing to inform her narrative paintings. Her fascination with mark-making, layering and textures fuels her passion for experimentation and constantly pushes through new techniques to develop into fresh ideas.
Kate’s narrative has evolved from her love of the human form, pattern, chiaroscuro, and theatricality. Themes emerge, and the narrative becomes increasingly apparent, often stemming from life experiences, both past and present.
