From Rotherham, Edwin La Dell RA attended Sheffield School of Art and, from 1935, the Royal College of Art where he studied under John Nash. He later became head of lithography at the College until his death in 1970. His place in post-war printmaking was enormously influential and his works are in the Victoria & Albert Museum, Tate and Government Art Collection.
Horse Guards Parade is one of the Coronation Suite, a series of 40 lithographs by tutors and past students from the Royal College of Art, which was proposed by La Dell in 1953.
Provenance: Frame label shows that this print was exhibited at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery, Bradford, in the 1894-1954 Jubilee Exhibition.
