Chris Myers was born in London and studied at Maidstone College of Art.
Following a successful career in London as the co-founder of a design agency, he now works from his Studio in East Sussex as a painter and illustrator, using watercolour as his primary medium.
Probably because of his background as a commercial illustrator, Chris has a wide range of subject matter which has appeared in his paintings over the years; classic cars, travel and his enthusiasm for music have all inspired his watercolours. But almost all of his work includes people.
“Life is people after all…..the medium of watercolour has an immediacy which helps me to create that feeling of spontaneity that I am constantly trying to achieve.”
Chris has won several awards throughout his career including the Cityscape Award in the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition and his work has been featured in ‘Octane’ and ‘Classic and Sports Car’ as well as ‘The Artist’, ‘Watercolor Artist’ and this year in ‘The Art of Watercolour’ magazine.
He became a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 2006 and then in 2009, a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours.
He was elected President of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours in 2022, its seventeenth, since the RI was founded in 1831.
