Mounting & Framing
-
Our conservation knowledge has enabled us to develop museum-quality techniques to ensure the best possible protection for artworks. Our services have been used by many of the UK’s top museums and galleries over many years. We offer a level of expertise in care of art that you would not usually find at a high street framer.
We cover a range of styles from traditional framing for watercolours, with decorated, acid-free mounts, to cutting-edge, hand-finished frames to both enhance and protect often valuable, contemporary works on paper. Clients particularly love our spray-painted, bespoke frames that come in a huge range of colours to set off their art or interior.
With values rising for many contemporary prints, collectors want to be reassured that their artworks are framed with some of the best, archival materials such as 100% cotton, acid-free, museum mount board, UV-filtering and low-reflect glass (Artglass, Mirogard, Tru-Vue, Optium) and inert, reversible hinges: no masking tape or acidic, wood-pulp boards guaranteed!
In our conservation studio, we can safely unroll and flatten even the largest works on paper and use techniques developed over many years to securely mount and frame any size of artwork. Our larger, contemporary frames can include spline-jointed corners and sub-frames to create a really strong frame with a bespoke appearance.
A good frame and mount will complement and emphasize the artwork, without overpowering it. We take time to discuss options with our clients to find a look that suits their picture. Sample of mouldings can be compared and digital, ‘mock-ups’ of the finished look provided if required. We always say there is nothing we cannot do when it comes to different styles of mount and frame and we bring 30 years of experience of creating everything from replicas of historic frames to acrylic tray frames where the artwork appears to float.
