Academic posts include Head of Putney School of Art;  Dean of Sir John Cass Faculty of Art & Design, City of London Polytechnic; Vice Provost of London Guildhall University. Elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour in 2002; Hon Treasurer from 2004 and Vice President from 2017-2024. Made Freeman of the City of London 1994 and, in the same year, Freeman of Goldsmith’s Livery Company.

Working Method:
I work in watercolour, as I like the flexibility of the medium, but as I also need opacity I use white gouache too.
I  used to work directly in the landscape, but over the years, as the paintings have become more abstract, I have gradually worked more and more in the studio. I take photographs, colour notes and written notes and work from these.
I have a number of paintings on the go at any one time (between 5 and 10). On any given day, I work on the one with which I feel most empathy on entering the studio.
